Jackaroo Odometer – 250 290 (ebook coming soon)
After yesterdays massive day at Karijini National Park most travelers won’t take the time to stop in at Millstream National Park. However you will be depriving yourself of another highlight in the region. Ask yourself this question…. will I ever be back here again? If the answer is no, then your immediate reaction should be to take the time and check into Millstream. I did and I’m glad because I’ve never been back to the area since. Goes to show that life will pass you by quickly if you don’t seize every opportunity you get!
If your pressed for time you can detour past Karratha and onwards to Port Headland if you need to make up some time. I would suggest if you have time spend an extra day in Karijini National Park! The short cut to Port Headland takes Karratha out of your trip but you won’t have lost to much time. Which reminds me if your visa is 6 months, don’t overstay!!!! The Australian government and customs won’t let you off lightly.
So Millstream National Park has a few focal points and I recommend you get a few photos! Also don’t forget to pack some warm clothes because at night it got very cool indeed. I woke up with a mist over the regional hills and I was surprised to be wearing a jacket until 8am when it really started heating up! 40 degrees by lunchtime! Same highlights as Karijini but a little more friendly for the bicycle! Get out there!
Although not the world renowned location as Karijini its a beautiful place none the less. You will find that it only takes a couple of hours walking or riding to see some of the area before I suggest getting to Karratha before sunset. When you arrive it should late afternoon if your timing is good . Watch the sunset and head to the local pub for a decent meal! Don’t be thinking Karratha has nothing to do, or nothing to see. Its got much more going on then you might think. More on that tomorrow!
5 Things to do….
- Take as many photos as you can… these pictures will last you a lifetime!
- Ensure you have drinking water… lots of it! once it warms up you will need it!
- Take your bicycle for a ride..plenty of tracks to choose from.
- Swim.. definitely swim!!!!
- No fishing but watch the sunset or sunrise over the mountain ranges.
The sunrise…. amazingly spectacular.
Best place to Eat….
if your low on food … karratha pub has you covered! get in before 10pm – thats when the kitchen closes!
Your place??? tent, swag or back of the car… caravan if you’ve got it!
Make sure you don’t pack away your winter woolies just yet.. it can still get very very chilly in the mornings and you should make sure you still have something warm to wear in the cold mornings… once your reach northern Territory you won’t have to worry about the warmer clothes!
